Set on 500 acres of pristine Irish countryside, Dromoland Castle offers guests a rare opportunity to experience authentic royal heritage in County Clare’s stunning landscape. This 16th-century castle resort provides the perfect blend of historic grandeur and modern luxury, where thousand-year-old stories meet five-star hospitality.
As the ancestral home of the O’Briens, descendants of High King Brian Boru, Dromoland creates an immersive world of Celtic history and contemporary comfort. From championship golf and falconry to award-winning spa treatments and exceptional dining, this living castle offers unforgettable experiences steeped in Irish tradition. Surrounded by ancient woodlands and manicured gardens, it blends heritage with luxury at every turn.
Dromoland Castle became a hotel in 1962 when American industrialist Bernard McDonough, whose grandparents were born in Ireland, purchased the ancestral home of the O’Brien clan from the 16th Baron of Inchiquin. The castle had long served as a stronghold, once ruled by Brian Boru, Ireland’s High King. With great care, it was transformed into a luxury hotel. Yet it still preserves the authentic baronial atmosphere of its thousand-year-old past.
Through careful renovation and the dedication of a passionate team, McDonough brought his vision of a world-class retreat to life. The result is a destination that honors both Irish heritage and five-star hospitality. Today, the castle continues to welcome guests with the same warmth and grandeur that defined its noble past.
