Gangtey Lodge is a luxury 12-room retreat nestled in Bhutan’s pristine Gangtey Valley, where ancient trails wind through pine forests and traditional farming communities. This unique farmhouse-style lodge offers spacious Bhutanese Farmhouse Suites with freestanding baths and Swiss wood-burning fireplaces. The design blends harmoniously with the village landscape.

Guests can enjoy morning coffee on outdoor terraces while taking in spectacular valley views, then gather in cozy common areas with large stone fireplaces. The lodge embodies Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness philosophy. It combines luxury accommodation with meaningful cultural immersion, spiritual experiences and sustainable practices. These efforts also directly benefit the local community.

Their story

Gangtey Lodge’s story began in 2003 when the owners were invited to Bhutan to explore ballooning possibilities but instead fell in love with the Gangtey Valley. Inspired by the pristine landscape and rich local culture, they embarked on a three-year journey to create a luxury escape that would preserve Bhutanese rural life while bringing opportunity and skills to this remote community.

Architect Mary Lou Thomson designed the 12-room Bhutanese farmhouse to respectfully blend into its environment and connect guests with Bhutan’s natural surroundings and spirituality. The lodge’s mission embraces Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness concept, balancing respect for nature with cultural preservation and sustainable development. Read more about them.
