Nestled in the heart of Central Finland, Kumpunen is a 400-year-old eco-farm that has been lovingly transformed into an authentic farmhouse holiday destination. This sustainable retreat offers a unique blend of historical charm and modern comfort, set against the magnificent backdrop of Lake Kirrinjärvi.
With 25 years of hospitality experience, the farm specializes in creating memorable celebrations, family gatherings, and peaceful getaways. Guests can choose from beautifully restored accommodation options including the 1920s main house, traditional Finnish granary, or lakeside cottages.
The farm’s commitment to organic farming, PEFC-certified forestry, and sustainable tourism principles ensures an authentic rural Finnish experience that respects both cultural heritage and environmental responsibility.
Kumpunen’s story began with the historic Kirri farm, originally built by Hjalmar Kirri in the 1920s. After Kirri’s death in 1933, the land was divided among 13 relatives, creating two separate farms: Kirri and Uusi-Kirri. The farms operated independently for decades until Juha and Hanni Kumpunen acquired Uusi-Kirri following the death of farmer Esko Ässämäki.
Since 2010, they have gradually converted traditional farm buildings into guest accommodation, beginning with the renovation of the luhtiaitta (traditional Finnish granary) and progressing to restore the main house and brick shed.
Their vision centers on sustainable tourism, preserving Finnish cultural heritage, and providing authentic rural experiences while ensuring future generations can continue to live and work on the farm. Read more about them.
