Guests are invited to engage in a variety of activities, from exploring ancient totem poles and participating in traditional Haida art workshops to embarking on wildlife viewing expeditions and kayaking through tranquil waters.
The Haida House at Tllaal stands as a 100% Haida (Indigenous) owned establishment and was the first eco-tourism destination within the portfolio of HaiCo (Haida Enterprise Corporation). Initially constructed in the 1980s, the building served as Tlell River House, a privately-operated inn.
Later, it transitioned into a trophy bear-hunting lodge, during which time it was not open to general visitors. In 1995, the Council of Haida Nation advocated for the cessation of recreational bear hunting on Haida Gwaii, which also led to the acquisition of the property. It effectively ended the bear hunting in the area.
In 2012, after a transformative journey, the property was re-launched as the Haida House at Tllaal. This marked a new chapter, focusing on providing guests with immersive experiences in Haida culture. Read more about this lodge.
