Their story
Thotalagala stands on the historic Pitaratmalie Estate, part of Agarapatana Plantations. The owners carefully restored the 19th-century tea planter’s bungalow while preserving its original character.

- Thotalagala Bungalow, built in 1870, features traditional masonry and woodworking techniques preserved through the meticulous restoration of the historic property.
- The bungalow also follows low-impact construction and maintenance practices, with a strong focus on protecting the surrounding landscape, local flora and fauna, and existing natural features.

- The hotel uses LED lighting and follows a Light On/Off Policy alongside standard energy-saving procedures to improve energy efficiency.

- The property also reduces single-use plastics through glass-bottled water, biodegradable guest amenities, and bulk purchasing where possible.
