Wilderness Bisate Reserve was created as the sister property to the award-winning Wilderness Bisate Lodge. Its vision combines Rwandan heritage, thoughtful hospitality, and environmental restoration.
Wilderness has actively reforested and rehabilitated the surrounding land to restore habitats and strengthen the local ecosystem. The project also benefits neighbouring communities through employment, partnerships, and conservation programmes.

Lowest impact construction and operation
- The reserve’s four Forest Villas feature a visionary design by Nicholas Plewman Architects and Caline Williams-Wynn.
- The construction extensively utilizes traditional materials including thatch, basket-weave, and timber. Its design reflects the surrounding forest and volcanic landscape. Inside, the décor celebrates the art, materials, and royal heritage of Rwanda.

- The property operates under the Wilderness group-wide environmental policies. The group prioritizes reducing energy consumption and utilizes solar energy, solar and thermodynamic water heaters, energy-efficient lighting, AAA-rated energy-efficient appliances where available, and timers to minimize electricity waste.

- Bisate Reserve employs a robust waste management system. The lodge composts organic food waste for its gardens or shares it with local farmers. A Rwandan artisan transforms used wine bottles into recycled-glass products. Kigali suppliers also deliver fresh produce without packaging to reduce waste.
- Under Wilderness Group Environmental Minimum Standards (GEMS), the property also practices strict waste separation, recycling, and resource auditing, alongside a group-wide initiative to eliminate single-use plastics.
