Only 25 minutes away from Kona International Airport, Beautiful Edge of the World offers a one-of-a-kind Hawaiian escape. It is minutes away from numerous cultural, historic, and natural sites. This B&B offers privacy, while still being only a ten-minute drive to stores. It is part of the Kona coast, a network of small communities with ties to fishing and farming.
Their story
Kurt and Kana (pictured above), from Korea and Japan respectively, decided to embark on a new path and open a bed and breakfast and farm in Hawaii. They bought the Beautiful Edge of the World five-acre property and have been committed to bettering the land while creating a welcoming experience for their guests.
The Edge is small but mighty. There are only three guest rooms, but all offer unbeatable views. Wake up to fresh fruit and Hawaiian coffee — all grown on the property. The rooms offer TVs, ceiling fans, and beautiful lanais to enjoy the perfect Hawaiian weather.
The property not only houses the bed and breakfast, but an organic farm tended to by the owners and some local farmhands. Part of the Kona coast, this farm produces coffee and a wide variety of tropical fruits, all of which you can enjoy at breakfast.
The Edge not only offers amazing views, but it is perfectly situated amongst natural, cultural, and historic landmarks. Kurt loves sharing his favorite Hawaiian activities with his guests, from kayaking and snorkeling to hiking and horseback riding. Lowest impact construction and operation
- The bed and breakfast is furnished with native hardwoods like Koa and Ohi.
- The property includes a 100-year-old coffee shack built from native trees.
Highest level of energy efficiency
- The Edge uses solar power for both electricity and heating. They also use LED lighting.
- There is no heating or air conditioning, as the altitude and setting allow for perfect temperatures day and night.
Pioneer in waste management
- Instead of letting the Hawaiian rainfall go to waste, all rainfall is collected and used to irrigate the coffee plants on the property. The bed and breakfast is situated at the top of the property, so gravity brings the water down to the crops without any need for electricity.
- Everything is recycled at the Edge. Kurt and Kana hand-separate all the recyclables to ensure that they are properly sorted for recycling.
- All compostable goods are used around the property to enrich the soil naturally.
- The toiletries are in large pump containers rather than individual, single-use plastic bottles.
- When guests need to use cutlery, they are welcome to use metal utensils and ceramic plates.
Fully organic and chemical-free operation
- The bed and breakfast shares the property with a small organic farm, and those organic principles are applied to both the farm and the B&B. The fruits and coffee could not be any more local: they are grown right on the property. Enjoy papaya and coffee grown steps away from your bed. The organic produce is grown with rainfall and natural compost instead of chemical fertilizers.
- The Edge uses biodegradable, low-chlorine detergent for the laundry.
- Rooms and common spaces are cleaned using natural cleaners rather than chemical-based ones.
Actively protects nature and community
- Kurt and Kana are determined to leave the earth better than they found it. They participate in volunteering around the world to help others become more environmentally friendly.
- Locals are hired to harvest the organic food from the farm.
- Kurt loves to tell guests the story behind the Edge, explaining the plant life, Hawaiian culture, and organic farming techniques to the guests. Kurt and Kana’s daughter is a vibrant player in the local community as well.

Best time to visit Beautiful Edge of the World
- Hawaii’s warm weather makes it a good destination at any time of year, with pleasant temperatures between 23°C and 30°C. The rainy season is between June and August which isn’t particularly that rainy.
