Their story
Goatfell originally served as a planter’s bungalow on the Concordia Estate near Nuwara Eliya. Estate manager Robert Megginson rebuilt the bungalow in the mid-1940s with help from an American architect friend. At the time, it ranked among the region’s most modern planter bungalows. Teardrop Hotels restored the historic property and transformed it into an intimate boutique hotel in 2018.
The name Goatfell comes from Scotland’s highest mountain on the Isle of Arran. It pays tribute to the Scottish planters who helped introduce commercial tea cultivation to Sri Lanka.
